Lake Garda & lake Como
Day 1 – ARRIVAL
Arrival and transfer by private motorcoach to SIRMIONE. Check-in at our hotel, welcome drink and presentation of the program.
Day 2 – SIRMIONE/BARDOLINO
Today we discover this cozy town with its 13th-century castle, and narrow, medieval streets. Walk along the lakeside to the nearby Caves of Catullus, the remnants of the biggest roman villa of northern Italy, from the 1st century BC. In the afternoon transfer to BARDOLINO and take a walk and visit some interesting wine makers and olive oil producers.
Day 3 – VERONA
Transfer by private motorcoach to near-by VERONA for a guided tour on foot. Visit the imposing Roman Arena, the colourful Piazza delle Erbe, and the “House of Juliet.” In the afternoon meet an expert in ancient prints, explaining about engraving techniques and all about ancient books and prints. Return to SIRMIONE by motorcoach.
Day 4 – GARGNANO
Transfer by motorcoach to the western side of the Lake to GARGNANO, where we begin our walk to St. Valentine Hermitage, a small chapel dating back to 1630. The landscape envelopes on in the groves scattered along the lake, hills of vineyards, chestnut groves and coppices. In the afternoon we take the “Lawrence Walk”, passing by Villa Igea, the house where D. H. Lawrence lived, as well as many other places mentioned in his works.
Day 5 – BELLAGIO
After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and transfer, by private motorcoach, to BELLAGIO, on Lake Como. After lunch, discover the so-called “Pearl of Lake Como”. At sunset a private motorboat cruise around the lake viewing the most beautiful ancient villas in the area as well as the three branches of the lake with the Alps in the background.
Day 6 – BELLANO/VARENNA
Today we transfer by ferry to BELLANO with a stop at the Bellano gorges for a spectacular view. Start the walk along the so-called “Wayfarer’s Route”, the ancient path used by Roman soldiers and pilgrims leading to the picturesque village of VARENNA. Walk to the 11th-century castle of VEZIO and then continue on to the source of the Fiumelatte River, supposedly the shortest river in the world.
Day 7 – OSSUCCIO/BALBIANELLO
From BELLAGIO cross the lake by ferry boat and visit OSSUCCIO, with its historical centre and famous bell tower. Walk to the Baroque Sanctuary of S. Maria del Soccorso. During the walk take pleasure from the wonderful views of the lake and the mountains. After lunch reach by boat Villa Balbianello, built in the late 18th Century for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. The Villa offers one of the most enchanting views of the lake and its surrounding hills. Return by boat to Bellagio for the farewell dinner.
Day 8 – DEPARTURE
After breakfast transfer by private motorcoach to Milano Malpensa airport (approximately 1.5 hours) or to any other destination you may request.
