Friulan Dolomites trekking

An exclusive trekking and emotional journey through the majestic and undiscovered heights of the Friulan Dolomites. Crossing authentic villages, staying overnight in quaint mountain huts, walking along forest trails and climbing ledges, visiting mountain alms and smoked ham producers. It’s all here in the Friulan Dolomites, where the fragrance of nature, the scenic paths and the varied fauna will allow for a real unforgettable experience.

Day 1

After landing in Venice Airport, you meet your guide and a private motorcoach takes the group to Cima Sappada, one of the most charming villages of the Dolomites. Check-in at the hotel and dinner.

Day 2

Our trekking starts by climbing the Peralba Mount, with its typical white rocks, through the marmot’s trail. We spend the night at the Calvi hut, at an altitude of 2164 meters, from where the view of the Dolomites is breathtaking.

Day 3

The journey continues with a shaded walk in the forest that skirts mountain streams, quarries, alpine shelters and defensive emplacements of the First World War, up to the Bordaglia lake, located in the deep of a glacial’s origin basin. The lake lies inside Bordaglia’s Oasis, the biggest oasis of faunal refuge in Friuli Venezia Giulia. We sleep in a tent camp on the shores of the lake.

Day 4

Today we hike the mountain pass of the Giramondo, kingdom of the golden eagle. We then enter Austria descending a wide valley with alpine pastures producing cheese. We then cross again the Italian border at the Volaia lake and sleep over the Lambertenghi hut.

Day 5

Today is dedicated to a meditative walk along the most fascinating peak of the Friulan Dolomites: the Coglians Mount. It is the main summit of an impressive ancient massif mainly composed by limestones originated in the Devonian age ( 410-360 million years ago ). The Marinelli hut will host the group for the night.

Day 6

Continuing our journey, the path alternates nature and typical carnic villages, with the typical slooping roof houses and flat tiles. We stop at one of these halmets and are hosted by a local family in a big stone and wood local mansion where we also take advantage of a typical home cooked dinner.

Day 7

After breakfast we descend to the Degano Valley through the village of Gracco and its famous banned woods, where the beech reach more than 30 metres in height and more than 4 metres in trunk circumference. After lunch in a typical tavern in the town of Rigolato, we climb the Pleros Mount and reach the Chiampizzulon hut, where we stay for the night.

Day 8

Today our trekking takes us to the Pesarina Valley after having scaled and dropped the Mount Talm, from where a 360° view of the Carnic Alps is worth the whole trip. We stop in Pesariis, known as the town of clocks, and walk along the town’s streets, where we admire many original clocks located everywhere around.

Day 9

After a stop in the typical rural settlement of Orias, we proceed along the valley admiring the beauty of nature and being able to observe the varied local fauna. Dinner and night at the De Gasperi.

Day 10

Today we hike towards the town of Sauris, our final destination. It is a very charming village that can be reached going up the narrow, green Lumiei valley, which is dominated by the Dolomite summits and is reflected in the waters of the lake that changes colour according to the season. This “pearl” in the Alps, rich in shepherd’s huts and pastures, is also famous for its smoked ham and craft beer, that we taste visiting one of the local producers of both specialties. We spend the night at the Emblateribm hut.

Day 11

After breakfast, a private motor coach takes us back to Venice where a guided walking tour is organised. In the afternoon, a private boat takes us to Venice Airport.
