A tour based in Northern Piedmont, at the foot of the Alps where the plains meet the mountains, to experience at a relaxed pace the unique natural beauty and cultural heritage of this area. We will walk around a variety of areas including the lower slopes of the Alps and some of the most stunning national and private parks.
Upon your arrival in Milano, you will be met by your group leader and transferred by private motorcoach to Biella. Check in, presentation of the program and dinner.
Today we explore historic Biella on foot so to have an introduction to the area. We will take the 100 year old Funicular railway up to the medieval old town situated on top of Piazzo hill which dates back to 1160. Here we will be guided through arches and porticoes which are typical of this part of town and visit some of the old palaces and noble villas from whose gardens we will see panoramic views of lower Biella and its spectacular mountain range.
We drive to the Sacro Monte (Sacred Mountain) of Oropa, a beautiful sanctuary in the mountains above Biella and a UNESCO World Heritage site. A “sacro monte” is a religious site comprising a group of chapels dating back to the late 16th and 17th. Walking and hiking in a spectacular and pristine alpine environment, we enjoy splendid views of the sanctuary (www.santuariodioropa.it), the surrounding mountains and the plains.
Transfer to Oasi Zegna, through the “Panoramica Zegna” Road, initiated in the 30’s by the entrepreneur Ermenegildo Zegna An intricate network of paths and itineraries leading to mountain pastures and huts with the possibility of tasting their typical products, accompanied by nature guides. We will discover the uncontaminated realm of a wild nature and, from Bielmonte, we will enjoy one of the best panoramas on the Po Valley.
Transfer by motorcoach to Cogne, encircled by the Alps and with access to the Gran Paradiso National Park, Italy’s first National Park.
